Why Aren't We THERE Yet?!!

For the last couple of summers, we've taken a 12-hour road-trip with our kids to visit family in Maryland. Our next trek will happen in a few weeks. There are 4 words every road-tripping parent dreads to hear: "Are We There Yet?" My initial thought in response to this question: "If we were there, you wouldn't have to ask that question. Therefore, we are NOT there yet!" When the kids get weary in the car, my husband and I remind them of the many things we have brought with us to hold their attention during the trip -- books, movies, games, electronic devices, etc. We encourage them to pick one and wait until we arrive to our destination.

There are times in life when we are just as impatient as kids on a lengthy road-trip. We've put in time, effort or money into something and we long to know the end results NOW! Don't you wish you knew if that investment will yield the return you want? It would be great to know if your new business idea will be the one to take-off. Wouldn't you like to know if the time you're spending in this relationship will eventually turn into some long-lasting?

You wish you knew what was going to happen next. You really want to know the outcome NOW instead of later. The suspense can be nerve-wracking! But all we can do is trust and wait.

Why are we so impatient?

1. We don't want to be where we are anymore. We may feel that anywhere is better than here! Our current situation is no longer fulfilling. Also, when we see others rising above, it can cause us to be weary where we are.

2. We want to get to our final destination. We want to be settled and established. Being in transient mode can indeed be unsettling. We know something better is on the horizon and we just want to get there

When impatience sets in, remind yourself of the blessings in your midst. Better is coming, but look how far you've come to get to where you are right now. Appreciate the fact that you have resources to invest now so that you can enjoy more in the future.

Be patient. Trust the process. Stay focused. Enjoy the ride. You're almost there!

Question: What do you do while you wait for better things to come?
