Mind the Gap

Mind The Gap. It's a message for riders of the London Underground (also known as the Tube). The US version is referred to as the subway. Growing up in the D.C. area, I had quite of bit of experience riding the subway. But when I first visited London several years ago, I had never heard the phrase Mind The Gap. This saying serves as a warning to riders to watch their step as they move between the train and the platform. At some stations, there can be a sizeable gap.

This phrase came to mind after a conversation I had with a group of friends about integrity. When our words line up with our actions, that is a sign of integrity. But how often do we allow distractions, procrastination, other people's priorities to come between the words we say and what we actually do? When this happens, a sizeable gap forms between our words and our actions. Our integrity is compromised! It's not good for our reputation, especially when we have good intentions but somehow we don't follow through.

We have to Mind The Gap! Customers, employers, friends, spouses, children are all watching us as we attempt to make the leap from words to actions. Yes, things happen that may be beyond our control. But if the relationship is important, we'll revise our action plan and close the gap on any expectations quickly. Integrity is important. Be mindful of any gap between your words and actions. #MorningMirrorTalk

Question: How do you ensure there is no gap between your words and your actions?
