Light Work

How do you feel when someone you know is accomplishing goals similar to yours? Do you celebrate them or do you quietly sulk because they are doing what you want to do? Their gifts and talents are on display for others to see and admire. All eyes are on them as their light shines bright -- brighter than yours.

It can be difficult to be in the shadow of someone's success; especially if you have similar aspirations. You may be inclined to turn away from their bright light because it's too overwhelming. Sometimes this is my first instinct...but then I decide to get over myself and look into the light! :)

Light Lessons:

1. Light exposes darkness. We all have some blind spots which need to be uncovered and explored. Another person's journey to success may reveal some development areas we previously neglected. I ask myself: What skills or know-how am I missing? Where can I make improvements?

2. Light illuminates a path forward. Seeing someone excel in their calling may give you ideas about where you can go with your gifts and talents. I ask myself: What is this person doing differently that I can adopt for future success? How can I build on what they've already established?

Don't turn a blind eye to someone who shines in their calling. Their shine may help shed light on your situation.

Question: When was the last time you let someone else's shine brighten your own instead of throwing shade at it?
