Out with the Old, Win with the New

There is a large area of unpopulated land along my daily commute. It recently caught my attention because it has undergone some significant changes over the years. When I first took notice a few years back, this land had a run-down aluminum shack resting on it. Graffiti-stained and dilapidated, it was clearly abandoned and uninhabitable.
The land itself was a confusing mix of dead grass, dirt, old vegetation and a little asphalt for good measure. The asphalt was occasionally occupied by a cop hoping to catch me in a speed trap. And, in good weather, a local farmer would set up a retail stand with seasonal fruits and vegetables.
The land is completely transformed now. Over the years, the aluminum shack has been demolished with no trace of existence. The remnants of the fruit and veggie stand are long gone. Cops no longer linger to catch speeders.
The land is no longer confused. It's been broken up, overturned, and leveled. Expertly prepared as fertile ground for something new. New home construction is set to begin soon.
This transformation made me think of times when I've tried to usher in something new, but something old was occupying too much space in my life. Now, it IS possible for old and new to co-exist; but they must make room for each other and be complementary to accentuate the best in each other. Yet if it becomes clear that one can't thrive until the other has exited, something has to give.
To do something brand new in your life may require some demolition, tearing down, and closure of old things in your life. This may require a clean slate in your habits, morning routine, or even some relationships. Attempting to try something new with old behaviors and mindsets can make it difficult to appreciate newness and build upon it.

To have life-changing results, you have to change something in your life. #MorningMirrorTalk
