shoe envy: when one is jealous of another person's shoes
shoo-in: a person or thing that is certain to succeed, especially someone who is certain to win a competition.
I am a fan of nice shoes. Earlier this week, I saw a lady with a stylish pair of boots and jokingly inquired if they were my size. Unfortunately, they were not :(
Although they were not my size, this exchange made me wonder: How often do we look at another person's life and desire what they have? From the outside looking in, their life looks pretty sweet! They have the career, the family life, the followers, the shoes....that we've dreamed of for a long time.
But what about their journey to get to the "sweet life"?
To "walk a mile in someone's shoes" means to consider someone's history, circumstances, and thought process before making judgement. We may judge the end result and think life has always been good for them. But for every success story there is a back story filled with hard work, tough decisions, and some missteps. This is true for careers, marriages, raising children, etc. Just think of your last big accomplishment. What challenges did you face before you reached your goal?
I will always be a fan of nice shoes. But as I admire another person's shoes, I am mindful that they came at a price. Am I willing to pay the same price to get what I want?
So... what size is YOUR shoe envy?!!
Shoo Envy Folks are shoo-ins for
Shoe envy 'til they've walked a Mile in someone's shoes.
