Right the Vision

Is your vision blurry?

Are you able to see clearly when you wake up in the morning or are things a little fuzzy?

If you naturally have 20/20 vision, that's wonderful! However, there are many of us who greet the morning with squinted eyes or can't read a thing until corrective lenses are within reach. I've worn glasses/contacts since I was a teenager. Since that time, I rarely go about my day without an extra set of eyes.

When your direction and purpose in life get a little blurry, what do you do? Do you brave the haze or do you search for help? We all could use another set of eyes to help bring clarity to our vision and purpose in life.

Our daily lives can get so busy with to-do lists, routines, meetings, etc. Our gifts and talents may be brimming under the surface of the daily chaos, but we're just too close to see them. If you are looking for clarity, have a discussion with a mentor, your spouse or close friends. Ask them:

- What are my strengths? - When have you seen me at my best? What was I doing? - What environment have you seen me thrive in?

It's also helpful to do a self-assessment before you pose these questions. This will allow you to have a conversation with them instead of an interrogation. In the corporate arena, these questions usually take the form of a 360 degree feedback.

Your supervisor, peers, and internal customers answer a series of questions about your strengths and areas of improvement. When people approach the 360 assessment as a valuable development tool, it can be beneficial for your personal and professional growth.

But don't wait for a formal opportunity to request feedback! Whether it's your work life or your personal life, seek out another set of eyes to remove the haze and help point you in the right direction!

Question: What positive things have you learned about yourself and your purpose through another person's lens?
