Gardeners and farmers are beginning to reap a harvest of seasonal fruits and vegetables. Even some of my 'green-thumb' friends are taking pictures and showing off the fruits of their labor. They took the time to prepare the ground, plant the seeds, and nurture them until their due season. This cycle of sowing and reaping also holds true for our purpose and dreams in life.
Just as farmers decide on the foods they want in the coming months, we have the ability to decide on the dreams we want to pursue in the months and years ahead. What benefits do you want to reap in the future? We all have things we want to enjoy in different areas of our lives -- strong relationships, healthy kids, thriving businesses, debt-free living, etc. But sometimes we rush into making something happen, desiring to see some type of growth immediately. The first step is clarifying exactly what the end goal is and confirming if it is right for this season. For example: Expecting strawberries to grow in Chicago in December may not be a good idea. Also, starting a business, going back to school and preparing for a baby may be too much at one time.
The seeds for sowing will differ depending on the what you want to harvest in the future. Whatever the seed (time, money, energy), consider the following when you're ready to sow:
Sow with wisdom - Before you invest your efforts, seek wise counsel. You want to ensure you are putting in the right work for the right outcome. Find someone who has sown with success and challenges.
Sow with patience - In an era marked by instant gratification, patience is a virtue now more than ever. Any delay can seem like a rejection. Do not rush the growth process. Stay the course! Your season is coming!
Sow with diligence - Consistently putting in hard work may be difficult if the results aren't evident yet. But if it's worth having, it's worth the effort. Don't be discouraged by setbacks.
Sow with expectation - Always keep the end goal in mind. Set the expectation that you will accomplish what you've set out to do!
Question: Once your goal is clear and the season is confirmed, what will you need to sow (invest) to obtain what you want in life?
